The author of 'Meterology for Pilots': Squadron Leader Mike Wickson was born and educated in Oxford and was trained in the Royal Air Force as a 'Specialist Navigator'. During his 24 years service he spent some years in research and development at Boscombe Down and at other research establishments. He instructed at the Royal Air Force Flying College and at the Army Flying School, Middle Wallop. After the RAF he was appointed as one of managers for the Concorde project with posts at Filton, Bristol and at the Concorde Flight Test Centre at Fairford. He subsequently joined the Oxford Air Training School and became senior lecturer in aviation meteorology. In this post he taught some 3,000 students from all over the world. His classic and bestselling book 'Meterology for PIlots' has become the standard study and revision text for Airline Transport PIlot Licence students worldwide.
